A Letter from the Managing Editor

By Jenny Steadman August 14, 2015
I love publishing this newsletter. I spend the month gathering content, taking suggestions from you and I try to put together solid information that will help you and your family on your path to wellness. This monthly column is to let you know I am here with you! I'm a mom with young children, a crazy schedule, I don't get enough sleep and have trouble eating well. We are in this together and, as a team, we can improve our lives, our families and our communities.

Yesterday I ran participated in a 10-mile race with an amazing friend. Two years ago we trained and ran a 5-mile race together. Last year we trained for and completely a 10K. We thought we would take it up a notch this year and do a 10-miler. Little did we know that we would have almost no training time and, when race day came, we were not prepared at all.

But we did it. We stuck together the entire time whether running, walking or needing to stop and stretch. We all but hobbled over the finish line together. This race was one of the hardest things I have ever done, but I did it and I don't know if I could have done it without my dear friend by my side.

The moral of this little story is we all need a team. We need people to cheer us on, stop when we need to walk and hold your hand over the (often figurative) finish line. (I know we aren't holding hands in that picture above but, trust me, a half-mile back we contemplated holding each other up across the finish line!)

Who is on your team? Who helps you stand up tall when you want to lie down? As parents, caregivers, community and family members, we don't have to do anything alone, nor should we have to. Someone wants to hold you hand. Let them!

Until next month,
Jenny
