Butter Coffee and Embracing Fats

By Jenny Steadman April 8, 2016
Studies show the health benefits of coffee, but did you know you can take it up a notch? Maybe you have heard of the trend of adding fat (butter!) to your coffee. It goes by a few different names: Bulletproof Coffee®, Mammoth coffee and butter coffee.

Butter coffee is so filling, somedays it is my breakfast! (Which is fine, but don't do it every day because then you miss valuable nutrients from a whole-foods meal too often.)

Here is what you need:
  • 2 cups fresh brewed organic coffee
  • 1-2 tablespoons butter (grass-fed butter or ghee)
  • 1-2 tablespoons coconut oil and/or MCT oil
  • Optional flavors: cacao powder, cinnamon, vanilla
Blend until frothy in a blender or with an immersion blender. This allows the fat to emulsify and makes the coffee a creamy dream!

I find this to be a wonderful snack mid-afternoon, which is my worst time of the day. I get snacky and eat a lot while cooking dinner. When I have butter coffee, I don't snack at all, have more energy (and I drink decaf!) and eat a lighter dinner. I feel amazing!

I know you are freaking out a little right now. Look at all of that fat! But I swear to you, by eating more healthy, heart-healing fats, you will reduce your calorie intake and burn more fat.

Have you had any experience with adding butter and/or coconut oil with your coffee? How does it make you feel? I feel satisfied and energized but everyone's body reacts differently. Start the discussion by commenting below!
