A Letter from the Managing Editor: The Power of Community

By Jenny Steadman May 13, 2016
I love publishing this newsletter. I spend the month gathering content, taking suggestions from you and I try to put together solid information that will help you and your family on your path to wellness. This monthly column is to let you know I am here with you! I'm a mom with young children and a crazy schedule; I don't get enough sleep and have trouble eating well. We are in this together and, as a team, we can improve our lives, our families and our communities.

One of the biggest reasons I love working with Macaroni Kid is the community that has formed amongst the publishers. Roughly eight years ago, our founders created Macaroni Kid with not only the hopes of enriching communities, but also with the idea to create a network of women who build each other up. When they were looking for investors, one told them that "this business model would work when pigs fly." Well, as you see in your inboxes, we make pigs fly every day!

So, why shouldn't we fly too? At the Flying Pig Marathon events in Cincinnati, Ohio, that is! For years we have talked about getting a group of publishers together to race our way through the streets of downtown Cincinnati and this year we did it. We were a small but mighty group. Three publishers with their husbands, kids and extended family ascended on Cincinnati and took part in the 5K, 10K and Piglet races together. Some of us had never met before, but that doesn't matter when you're an MK Publisher. We are all family!

I will treasure this weekend forever and I cannot wait to do it again next year and years to come. These are just some of the amazing gifts Macaroni Kid has given me: community, trust, love, strength and friendship.
