Yoga is a Celebration, This Yogi Mom is Celebrating!

In October 2009 my son Shane Ryder was born. How could I have so much joy and frustration all wrapped into one? Being a new mommy had its many moments of deep love and awe. It also had its many moments of feeling like I was a prisoner in a jail filled with dirty diapers, echoing cries, and no sleep. This time, more than any in my life, I found myself coming back to my yoga practice as a means of finding stillness and inner calm in a world of chaos.
I got pregnant again and gave birth to Jaya Jolie in August 2011. Since I had already been doing yoga for so many years it felt only natural to keep practicing through my pregnancies and beyond. I continued to come back to yoga and meditation as a way to relieve stress, elevate my mood, and provide unending benefits in my daily existence.
After Jaya was born and I was able to get back to my regular physical yoga practice, one of my yoga teachers encouraged me to participate in a yoga teacher training certification program. Instantly hesitation and guilt set it. How would I be able to handle doing this program when I have my family depending on me? Would I be a “bad” wife and mother to take this time to do this on my own? How would I make the time? At first it seemed like a far stretch, but I made the decision to jump right in. Was there ever going to be a “better” time? Then just like that, everything started to fall into place. My family was supportive. The schedule and timing was working out. I had a calling, an opportunity, and it felt right to just go for it. I signed up and the training started the following week.
There was a saying about a mother who was speaking with her wise spiritual guru, “now that I have children,” she said, “I do not have the time that I want to be able to devote to doing yoga.” She then asked, “How do I make time for my yoga practice?” He replied, “Your children are your yoga practice.” This saying has stuck with me. I have carried it with me as a reminder to be fully present in the moment; bringing awareness to what is here and now. Yoga has become a way of life for me and has provided opportunity to continually learn and grow. I am so thankful for having yoga as a big part of who I am and what I believe.
With the ebbs and flows of life, I am finding that there are times where I can dedicate more of me to my yoga and meditation practice, and there are times when family takes over and time is very limited. Whatever direction, I can apply yoga to my daily life in various ways and accept my circumstances. The physical aspect feels rewarding and serves as a tool to help reach a more tranquil state. The mental aspect grounds me and provides a meditative retreat from what can sometime feel like constant noise. The spiritual aspect is a way of heightening my awareness of the beauty and miracle in each moment. Giving whole-heartedly without expecting in return is another important part of yoga.
Children teach you to open your heart in ways you may not have known possible. I have noticed many parallels between being a mother and teaching yoga that have inspired me to want to give back to the community by spreading my love of yoga with others. I completed a 200-hour yoga teacher training program and started Nish Yoga in Santa Monica, CA in early 2012. I have been teaching yoga classes regularly and enjoying every moment of it. Yoga is a celebration. Practice joyful yoga and benefit from the mental and physical wellness it brings into your life.

The business loans are useful for people, which want to ground their own career. By the way, it is very easy to get a short term loan.
Have your say
