Laugh Often: Beating the Craziness of Summer

By Jenny Steadman June 13, 2014

School is out and it is summer time. In our house it means our days are either so empty we are bored and bickering at each other or, in an effort to avoid such bickering, the schedule is so full that you can't quite tell how to get everywhere on time.

This summer I am going to challenge myself - and all of you - to enjoy these days. My friend Sharon, who also happens to be a blogger, just published this fabulous post where she talks about the Summer Bridge. She brings a whole fresh look to the kids-at-home "problem."

As a work-at-home mom, I need time away from my kids to actually work. I'm also going back to school in about a week, which will mean I need more "me time" to get my work done. The thought of having both kids at home all day long makes me wonder how I will ever get it all done, but Sharon's post puts this in a whole new light.

All year long we are on different paths. We cross in the morning before school and at night for dinner and bedtime but other than that, there are buses to catch, bells to make, activities to shuttle to and meals to cook. We are all doing our own thing. But, during the summer, our paths come to a shared bridge where we get to be together. It's not a problem. It's a privilege.

I haven't yet figured out how I am going to do it, but I am going to get it all done. I'm going to find my work hours and my school hours and devote the rest of the time to family. We will play outside together. We will snuggle and watch movies together. We will do puzzles, read books and go on adventures together, all while I am (mostly) worry free about the other parts of my life.

I have one month to figure it out. One month until I will report back to you on how things are going. Will you do the same?

How do you manage your daily work so you can maximize family time?
