Real Life Fitness Stories: Meet Kelly

May 3, 2019

What is your name and what town are you from?

Kelly Bray from York, Pennsylvania.

Who makes up your family?

Seth, my husband, Ranger, our dog, and our kids, Houston, 2, and Georgia, 1.

Tell us about your struggles:

I struggled with binge and emotional eating my whole life. I was a Division I volleyball player and always worked out, but never focused on fueling my body properly. I had a hard transition from the college world to the real world when I jumped into emotional support and autism support teaching. I would gain 30 pounds, lose 40 pounds, gain 50 pounds... and the cycle continued. I also battled some serious anxiety and depression.

Then I got pregnant with my son, Houston, and had a fit and healthy pregnancy. I was super into cross fit! Still, I was not aware of eating properly and gained 30 pounds. I was on the right track with losing the weight when he was six months old (I was breastfeeding so keeping my supply up was top priority) and got pregnant with our baby girl! I gained an additional 30 pounds, while still doing cross fit. Fifteen months after Georgia was born, I was in two weddings and I wanted to look my best. I was able to drop all the weight and maintain my milk supply.

I still felt like I could do more from home. I found a new program to follow and was fully committed. Because it was longer than a 21-day challenge, it became a lifestyle. I still struggle with emotional binge eating and drinking, but feel like I finally have control! I am down 70 pounds from when I was 40 weeks pregnant with my daughter.

I now have the resources to understand how to eat every meal, and that it is 100 percent mindset! This coaching opportunity has filled my cup and reignited a fire inside of me. I love helping others live their best lives!

What was the turning point that made you change the way you care for yourself?

Having to take care of two babies under 15 months and wanting to do something for me. I also love helping others. I was a teacher and I felt like I could help people from home!

How have you implemented your new habits with your family?

We still order out occasionally, but our budget and grocery shopping is completely different. We are intentional when we shop and stick to the list. We have saved tons of money by making more meals at home and buying less junk. We still eat pizza and wings occasionally, but it is not an every week thing like years before!
