We have two tools in our house that my kids (5 and 8) love. It makes them active participants in trying new foods and making food choices throughout the day:
Today I Ate a Rainbow
With Today I Ate a Rainbow, kids use magnets on a chart to track how many colors of the rainbow they eat each day. My kids make it into a game! I often hear, "Mom! I need a purple! Help me find something purple!"

Veggie Discovery Table
The people at Cook Smarts are, well, smart! They created a printable PDF that encourages kids (and adults) to try new vegetables and keep track of how much they liked them. You can use markers or stickers to give each tasting a red (don't like it) yellow (it's ok) or green (like it) and there are five spots for each vegetable so you have to keep on trying! (Note: You do need to sign up for the Cook Smart newsletter to download the Table.)
Once my kids have discovered what purple they need for the I Ate a Rainbow chart, then they head over to the Veggie Discovery Chart to see if they can mark something there, too. They love it and I do, too!
