October 9, 2015

We want to hear from you! If you've jumped on the bandwagon, you can inspire others to do the same. Whether you're a personal trainer or play Wii Fit with your kids, you're part of the family fitness revolution. If you've made fitness a priority for you and your family, we want to know about it. I want to feature your story, your successes, challenges, and tips.

All you have to do is answer these questions and email the answers to jennys@macaronikid.com. Please send a photo we can use, too.

Can't wait to hear from you and be inspired by YOUR story!

What is your name and what town are you from?

Erika Veduccio, Derry, NH

Who makes up your family?

My husband and five kids. Three biological: Isabella 13, Mateo 10, and Dante 3; and two billet sons: Kevin 18 and Jake 22

Briefly, tell us your struggles.

Since having babies 13 years ago, I have struggled with the baby weight, all 100 pounds of it. The moment I laid eyes on my babies, I put myself last. Over 13 years of nursing, having babies and being a great mom and wife, I lost myself and my health.

What was the turning point that made you change the way you care for yourself?

In May, I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. I had no energy and was having difficulty doing day to day things that I always loved.

What actions did you take to become healthier?

I made a plan. I met with doctors and started a medically-supervised diet that would help me lose the weight. I also attended weekly classes to educate myself on diabetes. I started to look at my body like a car. Food was now fuel and exercise was like getting my oil changed. If I wasn't healthy, my body was no longer going to work.

How have you implemented (or plan to) your new habits with your family?

I changed my lifestyle. Instead of meeting friends for drinks or lunch, I meet them to walk. Instead of going out to dinner, we go on family hikes. When we went to the beach this summer, we walked and played with the kids and swam. I was no longer just watching my kids but participating in everything they did. If they were at Lacrosse practice, I walked around the field. If they were swimming in the ocean, I was too.

Anything else you want to share?

It's so easy to lose sight of our health as a mom. However, if we don't take care of ourselves, then our kids suffer. Now that I am healthier, my kids are actually happier. We go for runs together and ride bikes as family activities. We love being active together!
