Starting a Family Garden

May 8, 2015
Are you looking for a way to engage with your kids outside?
Are you looking for a way to get your kids excited about vegetables?
Are you looking for a way to teach your kids about where food comes from?
Are you looking for a way to teach your kids about how plants grow?

You need to look no further than your own backyard!

Whether you have a garden spot to plant in or a container to fill up, starting a family garden is a wonderful way to engage your kids in all of these activities.

This time of year, you may be able to start planting seeds outside, as long as the frost is gone. You can also start them inside. We used egg cartons, filled each with a bit of dirt, planted our seeds and are watching them grown! This weekend, we will cut the cartons apart and plant the entire thing in a small plot of garden outside our back door.

A family garden is win-win for the entire family. Everyone gets to participate, you get fresh vegetables and it is the cheapest way you will ever eat!
