Everyone loves an underdog. This is why shows like The Biggest Loser are so successful. Or maybe I should say the "perceived" underdog. The thing is, us parents, once we can see past the fog that children surround us with, know that we can do anything, especially with the support of our peers. Here at Macaroni Kid Family Fitness we love to feature moms and dads (aka, the underdog) who have made that step to bettering their health because a healthy parent is a major step towards a healthy family!
Whether you have become a fitness instructor, are training for a marathon or your first 5K, or just signed up with your local gym, you are on the move and proving to others around you that anyone can do it! You get to set the example and be peer support for your friends and family!
Today we are excited to profile Courtney Colaizzi, Zumba enthusiast, nutritional guru and fitness instructor at Absolute Fitness Academy in Chippewa.
In October of 2009, I weighed 206 lbs. I had just celebrated my youngest's 2nd birthday. My back was killing me, my knees throbbed, my migraines doubled and my size 16s were getting tight. I blamed all of my issues on that pregnancy. I figured the fat fairy would appear and magically put me back into my size eights. Ha! I was in denial PLUS SIZE time. I attended my girlfriend's wedding that month and I was shocked to see the photos. There was a picture of this portly woman bursting out of her hounds tooth dress. That portly woman was ME! That was the day I decided to get back on track and start owning my laziness. I started with watching what I was eating and I began taking Zumba. I am now 155 lbs., a nutritional guru and fitness instructor at Absolute Fitness Academy in Chippewa. I have fallen in love with the strength training aspect of health as well as clean eating. I also found out that I really enjoy boxing (TitleFit). Who knew women would love wailing on a punching bag so much? I have inspired many men and women to prepare fresh meals with my food blog and I love seeing the results with the ladies and gents who regularly attend my fitness classes. I still have some work ahead of me. I am still pushing myself to try new things (I hate jogging, but, I've started down that path) and explore new methods of better nutrition. Juicing! Once I eliminated the excuses, the weight melted off of me, my migraines decreased and I no longer need cortisone shots for my back. I am proud of myself.
