Baby Strong

I often get asked advice on how to workout at home with a little one. Babies need attention all the time and it is expensive and hard to get to a gym… what is a mom at home to do? The answer is, use the baby to your advantage! Baby Strong is here to help you. Baby Strong is a fun, effective and inexpensive way for moms to feel fit, happy and confident again after having a baby. Baby Strong is a deck of cards (held together with a teething ring – brilliant!) loaded with workouts that only require a mom and a baby. No special equipment is needed. Each chew- and drool-proof card has a photo and text instructions for one exercise. You can follow the pre-made workouts or customize your own. It’s fun, effective and inexpensive. Mom Care + Baby Care = Family Care. Find more information at www.babystrongworkout.com.

Grokker

Working out at home is the best. You don’t have to go anywhere, it’s inexpensive and can be a real time-saver. But, if you’re like me, DVDs start to get dusty and treadmills turn into a clothes rack. I have learned that working out at home isn’t destined to fail if you find the right combination of workouts. This is what I love about Grokker.

Grokker is a subscription service you use through your computer, tablet or television (if you use ROKU, Chromecast or a similar device). Set your account for the videos that most interest you. I told Grokker I am interested in yoga, smoothies and meditation. Each day, I would get an email with a video suggestion for the day. Sometimes it was a workout and sometimes it was a new recipe to try. I love that Grokker isn’t all about hard-core cardio. Grokker brings a holistic approach to health through an affordable service. And of course, Grokker was founded by a mom! Parents know the challenges to staying healthy and I love when we step out into the forefront of wellness to help each other out! Fitivities

Here at Macaroni Kid Family Fitness & Wellness, we are fans of Fitivities. You can see my review from last year HERE. For more information, visit www.fitivities.com.

Notes from my 8-year-old: I think it's really fun because you are in teams and you can do exercise when it's snowing out and you have a snow day. I think other kids might enjoy it because if you feel energetic and feel like running around and your mom and dad don't want you running around the house, you can play Fitivities to get some exercise.

Once Upon a Mat
By now, we all know the benefits of yoga. Every time I take a class, I feel more flexible, more attuned to my body and have a clearer mind. Wouldn’t our children benefit from this as well? Once Upon a Mat, by Namaste Kid, is a kids yoga DVD geared to ages 2.5 and up. It is truly something the whole family can do together. It isn’t your typical yoga class, though. Once Upon a Mat takes you on adventures to the African safari, a trip to outer space to a garden and more. While the full DVD is a 33-minute class, each section is broken down into 3-5 minute yoga routines, which are perfect for little distracted minds.
