Back-to-School Challenge 2017-2018

By Jenny Steadman August 11, 2017

We are well into the school year. I always feel like this is my calendar year, not January - December. With the kids in school, this is when I restructure my days to focus more on what I need. This is when I like to set a challenge for myself with a goal to reach by the end of the school year.

There are many different ways this could go for you. Here are some suggestions:

  • Train for a 5K (or other race)
  • Start exercising a certain number of days each week
  • Cook dinner a certain number of days each week (Looking for fun recipes? Check out Macaroni Kid EATS!)
  • Be more organized
  • Say NO more often to free up valuable time
  • Reduce or eliminate caffeine consumption
  • Lose weight
  • Get more sleep
  • Reduce stress
  • Up your game on something you're already working on
  • Train to be the next Ninja Warrior!

I could go on and on and on. Then you can decide if this is an individual goal, a challenge with your partner, or a family affair. It's up to you. My biggest recommendation is to focus on no more than two things. When the challenge gets too big, you are setting yourself up for failure.

I've decided on my challenge, and I know I will be successful if I do it with you. Group support is one of the largest factors when it comes to success. MY CHALLENGE: I have been a student of Taekwon-do for over two years. I am two belt promotions away from testing for my black belt. While this is exciting and my training will get me there, I also have to run two miles in 20 minutes for my black belt test. Even at my fastest (which was years ago), I have never run a 10-minute mile. I will work on my strength, endurance, and speed, but will also work to eat better and I would like to lose a few pounds. Being a bit lighter will help me go faster.
