Michelle from Airmont, N.Y.

Who makes up your family?

Me, my husband Brad and our almost 2-year-old, Grayson.

Tell us about your struggles.

I have been overweight my entire life. I'm able to lose weight, but have trouble staying motivated to keep it off. I tend to put the weight back on, and then some. 

What was the turning point that made you change the way you care for yourself?

I'm turning 37 soon and noticed that my stamina and energy are going downhill. I decided for my health and the sake of being in good health when my son is older, I need to make a lifelong change vs. losing weight and going back to old habits.

How have you implemented your new habits with your family?

I have lost 10 pounds in the past month by taking Pilates once a week, and I try to get in some form of exercise 5 days a week, with one day of rest. My husband and I take turns using the treadmill and I got a Fitbit to make sure I'm hitting my steps. If the weather is good, I put my son in his stroller and walk with him after work. Overall, I'm buying healthier foods, which is forcing my husband to eat and cook healthier as well. My colleagues and I have started a lunchtime walking group at work twice a week so we have some exercise and time to chat. I meal plan so that I have a healthy lunch to take to work all week and we cook at home most days of the week. 

Michelle has figured out how small changes make a big impact over time and has created a sustainable way to get and stay healthy as a family. And I love how she has co-workers involved, too! Way to go, Michelle!
