Embracing Monday: Why Monday Should Be Your Favorite Day of the Week

Change your Monday mindset and get your week started right

By Jenny Steadman March 1, 2019

Mondays have a bad rap.

Let’s see what the internet has to say:

  • I’m having a case of the Mondays.
  • Mondays are the potholes in the road of life.
  • Shortest horror story: Monday.
  • I don’t wanna Monday.
  • I hate Mondays.

There’s even a song by the Boomtown Rats about how bad Mondays are. Sing it with me: "Tell me why I don’t like Mondays…”  There's truly an endless source of anti-Monday quotes.

Monday needs some rebranding, and I’m here to give it a boost!

Monday sets the tone

As a parent, Monday is the day we get back on schedule. Monday is the day the kids go to school and see their friends. Monday is the day I get to start checking off my to-do list without endless badgering of “I’m bored,” “I’m hungry,” and “can I have a playdate?”

Monday is the day you get to show up. Monday sets the tone. Monday gives you the chance to start anew.

And when we are talking about fitness? Monday is the day to get going.

I set a workout schedule each week because I believe exercise is important enough to actually schedule, and not just fit in between other activities.

Schedule Monday exercise

I always put a workout on Monday, and you want to know why? Because if I miss Monday, then things get crazy on Tuesday, Wednesday a sick kid is home, Thursday is full of appointments and oh-my-goodness it is Friday. Where did the week go? And I didn't get in a workout at all.

So, Monday. Monday is the day we get to move. Monday is the day we get to start the week off on the right foot. Monday is the day we get to set the tone of productive and in-charge, or unproductive and flying by the seat of our pants.

So, ladies and gentlemen, moms and dads, let's embrace Monday! Monday is your friend. Monday is your benchmark for the week. Monday sets the tone for everything.
